Precious Things

Oh, let's have a jewelry moment, shall we?

This necklace is awe-inducing.

Key necklace by sadie. Simple beauty.

Back when I ventured to the mall a few weeks ago, I saw an older lady rocking effing amazing snake earrings! They totally worked, too. Loved it, and haven't forgotten. These cobra earrings are not really similar to what she had, but they're still bad ass.

I can't have a post without some turquoise somewhere, can I?

Or something that comes from Mexico!

Into My Arms

I got some earrings that are remarkably similar to these (a bit smaller and simpler) the other day at Polanco, an amazing store in Hayes Valley.

As far as I can tell, this is a traditional style of jewelry named "pajaritos" (tiny birds) made in Guanajuato, Mexico. It's delicate, sorta Victorian, hand made and absolutely stunning. I saw bracelets, pendants and a mind boggling assortment of these beauties, all different yet all with the same motif. The image here doesn't do these earrings justice. They are very intricate.

Here's a couple more examples:

This is a beautiful ring!

And here's a pendant:

Silver Raven

Vancouver is one of the few places I have been where I thought, "I could live here." All of the Pacific Northwest, actually, just feels right to me -- the evergreen trees, driftwood-strewn beaches and slate sky and sea. Yesterday's totem pole post reminded me that Haida gear has never gone out of style in my home! I am wearing this beloved scarf today:

And I also got these beautiful raven earrings months ago and wear them all the time:

p.s. This song was written in the PacNW-like mists near Mendocino.

Goodness me! Love this.

I approve of lightning bolts on jewelry whenever possible.

and that goes for llamas, too...big time.

Walk Like An Egyptian

True life fact: I'm still terrified of mummies and other dead rotting things. But those Egyptians did have influential style:

Egyptian collared shirt from the Met.

I actually own these scarab earrings already...gotta get my Egypt on!

The beading on this necklace is hella cool, and it's got lotus flowers, always a plus when you're feeling ancient. Love this one too, and it's much easier on the wallet:

Now where could I sport it?
